On October 10th, in honor of International Day of the Girl, Girls Make Beats hosted an unforgettable summit at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles. The event brought together nearly 400 middle and high-school students from Los Angeles, Compton, and Inglewood for a day of inspiration, innovation, and hands-on music technology experiences.
Speed Mentorship from Industry Powerhouses
One of the highlights of the summit was the speed mentor sessions, where students had the opportunity to engage directly with top music industry professionals. These sessions allowed students to ask questions, share their aspirations, and receive guidance from women who are breaking barriers in the music and tech spaces.
Hands-On Tech & Music Activations
The summit offered several interactive and educational experiences designed to bridge the gap between creativity and technology:
Virtual Reality DJing with Tribe XR
A demo of Melodyne with Celemony, showcasing professional pitch and audio editing tools
All things Serato with TEC Leimert, a Black-owned non-profit focused on digital equity for communities of color
Plug and Play area, where girls jammed out on guitars, beat machines, a bedazzled key-tar, a purple mic, and a violin!
A GMB Podcast station where they were interviewed by GMB's DJ MAK10
Access to Mobile Sessions — a fully equipped mobile recording, mixing, and live production studio built inside an RV
Live Music & Learning
Inside the Paramount Theatre, attendees chattered with excitement as they found GMB Summit giftbags with brand new Beats by Dre headphones awaiting them in their seats! They were greeted by an incredible performance of “Big Screen” by event producer Stichiz and string quartet, Janice & The JAC Trio. Host, Kaiya Nyasha introduced speakers Randy Spendlove President of Worldwide Music and Publishing Paramount Pictures, Harvey Mason Jr. CEO of The Recording Academy, and Phylicia Fant Global Head of Music Industry & Culture Collaborations Amazon Music. The girls then tuned into the “What Is Sync Licensing?” with Racquelle Proctor Senior Manager Creative Music Strategy Paramount TV Media and PTVS Film/TV , and literally jumped our of their seats as GMB founder, Tiffany Miranda, conducted her interactive "How to Make a Beat" masterclass!
The GMB Summit ended on a high note with three girls from Compton, CA receiving the $1,700 "You Glow Girl" scholarship into the program, Amazon gift cards, and one of them winning a full at-home studio setup, courtesy of FocusRite!
The Girls Make Beats Summit was more than just a music event — it was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and access in the music and tech industries. By connecting young girls with role models and real-world tools, the GMB summit helped plant the seeds for future careers in a space where women are still underrepresented.
As the beat goes on, Girls Make Beats continues to lead the charge in creating opportunities for young girls to explore, learn, and lead in the music and audio world — one track, one DJ set, and one summit at a time.
