Black Girl Joy Day 2025: A Celebration of Play, Power, and Purpose

On August 9th 2025, Black Girl Joy Day celebrated its third year with over 100 middle and high school girls gathering at the Getty House, home of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, for a powerful “Day of Play.”

Hosted by the California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute in partnership with the Getty House Foundation, the event centered joy, healing, and sisterhood.Providing the soundtrack for the day were DJ DC Future and DJ Darielle from Girls Make Beats, adding energy and empowerment through music. The mayor’s residence was transformed into a vibrant playground featuring Zumba, line dancing, double Dutch, hula hoop contests, and more
