What is International Women’s Day?

The third month of every year is Women’s History Month, and March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD). For over 100 years this holiday honoring half the population has celebrated women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements. Its mission is to highlight activities that encourage women to pursue goals without bias or barriers. All over the world groups come together to fundraise for women-centric charities and raise awareness about women’s equality.

IWD is a day to both pay homage to the past as well as a call to action to accelerate gender parity in our society. Although female vocalists have made indelible impressions on our culture, there are still too many arenas where women are underrepresented and must struggle to get their due in the music industry.

At Girls Make Beats, we’re educating the next generation of female music producers, DJs, and audio engineers to serve as role models for young women who want to work in the industry. It’s not only about teaching equipment and software, it’s giving girls the confidence to tackle whatever they set their minds to. Learn about our programs, which include online classes and tutorials here. Please consider a donation to help us provide scholarships for as many girls as we can and spread the word about the work we’re doing to empower girls.
